One of my favorite hikes to share with family and friends is Paramount Ranch, a "movie ranch", with hiking trails and picnic areas in the Santa Monica Mountains created by Paramount Pictures in 1927. In 1980 the National Park Service purchased the land and revitalized the old ghost town.
Literally hundreds of movies and TV shows were filmed there including: Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman, The Cisco Kid and the Adventures of Marco Polo, to name just a few.
The ranch has miles and miles of diverse landscape, with moderate grades that are easy to walk or trail run, with stunning views of the lower valley below. To the south, towering over the park is Sugarloaf Peak at 1,515', it is the highest point in the park.
Lunch: Make sure to pack a picnic as the ranch has lots of areas to get your lunch-on.
