My clients ask me all the time about cleansing products. “Does my colon really need cleansing, or is it just another trendy gimmick to separate me from my money”
According the National Institutes of Health (NIH), no, your colon does not require that at all. The reason behind the virulent popularity of colon cleansing enemas, diets, and supplements is that, is that most people are looking for a quick fix to weight loss, and when this happens diet shucksters will only be too happy to sell you one.
The NIH says, that the colon is designed to do just what it does—remove waste from your body. The gold-standard for performing this process is to consistently eat a wholesome diet, and your colon will perform perfectly. Insoluble fiber—which is abundant in whole grains, vegetables, beans, and lentils—is of very important to keep wastes moving along your digestive tract. Since these types of foods are very, very good for you, consuming more and more will benefit your colon and vital organs. Just as important, proper hydration will also aid your colon with efficient digestion, so drink your 8-10 glasses of water per day, even more when you are working out.
The NIH goes on to say that colon cleansing products aren't always benign, either. These products can deplete you of important nutrients, and cleansing regularly can lead to malnutrition, anemia and heart failure. The simple fact is that under normal circumstances your colon—along with your liver, kidneys, and spleen—is much more qualified to cleanse itself. Save your money, skip the cleanses and learn to eat a nutritious diet.
Your Winning Strategy: Eat nutritious whole foods, there are no weight loss shortcuts.
